Directional drilling, better known as Directional Boring, is a process whereby utility systems, conduits, or cable
can be placed underground with no need for
trenching or open cutting roads, sidewalks or other areas that you prefer not be disturbed. The boring process begins with the drilling of a small diameter pilot hole that is made with a drill tool attached to flexible steel rods along a pre-determined path. The boring machine advances these steel rods and tool with a combination of pushing and spinning the tool to steer around existing utility systems and other natural barriers. Electronic transmitters and
Directional Drilling

receivers are used to communicate with a sending unit placed in the drilling tool head prior to the start. These electronics continuously monitor the drill tool and relays to the operator the exact location and depth of the tool at all times. Throughout the pilot hole process, small adjustments are made to the drill head to keep it on track until you have achieved your desired path of depth and length.

Following the drilling of the pilot hole, a tool called a backreamer is pulled through the pilot hole to expand the hole to the desired diameter. During this process a drilling liquid is introduced into the hole by the backreamer to act as a lubricant and to hold the hole open. Once the desired diameter has been achieved you can attach conduits, cables, gas line, water line, drain line. ect. and pull them back through the hole.

•  CCI currently operates 2 drills with the capability of placing single or multiple conduits up to 12” in diameter up to 1000' .

•  Drilling eliminates the need for the ever increasing cost of open cutting roads, driveways and sidewalks.

•  Drilling eliminates the need for road closures due to open cutting.

•  Drilling eliminates the unsightly mess and the need for restoral caused by trenching.

•  Drilling can reach areas inaccessible by other equipment.

•  Faster than any other method of placement available in the industry today.
